Description | Wittgenstein's aesthetics moves within a framework marked literally by Tolstoy, philosophically by Frege. Both have given an important role in art in various ways. For Wittgenstein, however, private feelings cannot be the foundation of aesthetics. Rather, an aesthetic reaction is decisive, which states that the work of art is correct. On the basis of a distinction between the immanent and the transcendent correctness of the work of art, I would like to argue that the aesthetic reaction expresses an aspect of the work of art itself. This means that there is an internal relationship between the work of art and the reaction to the work of art. If the aesthetic reaction is an aspect of the work of art, an irreducibly subjective element is identified in the aspect change which Wittgenstein identifies with astonishment. The work of art is thus placed in the context of culture and connected internally with it. A particular object, therefore, belongs to art, in so far as it constitutes an aspect of culture. |
