Description The plutonic rocks in the boreholes south and southeast of Brno yield 590–601 Ma zircon ages. The obtained age range is similar to that published for Thaya Terrane granitoids and their strongly deformed equivalents in the Moravo-Silesian Belt. This may indicate that they formed coevally and probably in the same subduction setting at the northern margin of Gondwana. The 740 ± 2 Ma age for a metatuff of the Central Basic Belt show that the Central Basic Belt is indeed c. 130 Ma older than the oldest (610 Ma) magmatic activity in the Brunovistulian microcontinent. The 594 ± 3 Ma age for non-metamorphosed, discordant subvolcanic rhyolite shows that metamorphism of the basaltic volcanites and felsic tuffs of the Central Basic Belt occurred somewhere between 740 Ma and 594 Ma and, thus, that it must have different origin.
