Description | In our contribution, we will show individuals at the fourth age as active actors of family and friend relationships, and we will discuss how these ties are conditioned by their attitude, how they shape their identity and quality of life. We will use qualitative data from the "Fourth Age: Identity of Disability in the Age of Active Aging" project, specifically repeated interviews with 10 people at the fourth age, and their care and field notes from the four weeks of observation in seniors' homes using care services. We show a significant heterogeneity of fourth agers, from the point of view of social ties, from the almost lonely to those who actively maintain ties with a wide family and friends or actively build new relationships. We will discuss the link between the forms of family and friendly ties with their own self-perception and identity. |
