Description | In the paper, we rely on mixed approach obtained under the Rural Aging project: unanswered questions of environmental gerontology (GA16-20873S) and we look at active ageing with the perspective of the everyday lives of older adults. From this, we derive their own understanding of what it means to leave active life in old age in rural areas. Our data point to the need to extend the concepts of economic and socially productive activities to meaningful activities such as small and larger farming, breeding, and DIY. It is not without interest that these activities have their gender specificities, just as we can see in the cities. Besides idyllic views of historically socially densely interconnected rural areas and small towns, it contrasts with a positive assessment of the change in the increase in civic engagement and participation in the life of societies in recent times, which is likely to be attributed to pressures on activation from the "up" and "bottom" older adults. In the paper, we aim to support the sociological debate on the role of older adults in rural and rural life in the elderly. |
