Description This paper deals with the legacies for religious purposes with special emphasis on their reduction due to the Falcidian law according to the fragment D 35, 2, 1, 5 Paulus l.S. ad l. falcid. According to the fragment cited, the legacies for religious purposes are subject to reduction; however, in later times the opposite meaning prevails, as there is a presumption of the testator’s wish not to reduce such legacies. The fragment cited is interesting for one more reason – it regulates the legacies bequeathed to god. The original text by Paulus was aimed at a pagan god but the meaning of the text was later actualized via its Christian interpretation.
