| Description | Fencing manuals, Fechtbücher, or rather manuals of historical European martial arts (HEMA), are written mainly in vernacular, yet there are also works of this literary genre or discipline written in Latin. Up to now, only a few academic researchers paid attention to these Fechtbücher, perhaps due to its non-literary character, or because a small number of works represents this literary discipline. This paper sought to introduce the phenomenon of Latin fencing manuals which were written from the 14th to the 16th century. |
