Description | Platinum anticancer agents represent one of the great success stories in the field of medicinal inorganic chemistry. However, current chemotherapeutics are rather non-selective and their undesired reactivity during the delivery to cancer tissue is responsible for severe side effects [1]. These anticancer agents would greatly benefit from protection during the transport in blood stream, and targeted delivery towards specific cancer tissues [2]. Therefore, preparation of Pt compounds decorated with anchor-type ligands suitable for encapsulation in macrocyclic cavitands was our goal in this study. Synthesis of novel platinum coordination compounds containing bulky adamantane ligands, their characterization by heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy and binding of these complexes into macrocyclic carriers were discussed.
