Description | The innovation stream that is at the centre of this chapter is self-organised community development with refugees. Self-organisation and bottom-up collective action is not a new development as such. The novelty lies in the increasing recognition of the importance of such activities by established players and governments. As in other studies, we define community development as an activity for the benefit of a particular social group (Bhattacharyya, 1995). In this chapter, we focus on heterogeneous groups of refugees-including those who have obtained the refugee status, those awaiting their procedures and those whose status applications have been denied-in particular localities. |
