Description The article surveys approaches of main representatives of the criminal-law theory, who have worked at the Masaryk University Faculty of Law since its establishment in 1919, i.e. mainly in the inter-war period. Criminal act as a crucial term of substantive criminal law in its broader perspective, i.e. the philosophical approach, and narrower meaning, i.e. the criminal-law theoretical approach, and conceptual (definitional) determination, has undergone various historical, current or contemporary rigmaroles. Their connection with the very Brno Faculty of Law then entitles us to call these approaches - „The Brno Criminal Law School“. The core of the article is then, mainly from the historical perspective, connected with names, such as Jaroslav Kallab, Erich Olšar and others. Attention will be paid to their work also mainly from the perspective whether and how they inspired the following, or current development in Czechoslovak, or Czech criminal-law theory, and not only at the Brno Faculty of Law.
