Description | As an intermediary and interdisciplinary scholarly discipline, foreign language didactics is constantly in search of new ways to provide successful results of language learning both in schools and in out-of-school education. In this sense, linguistic landscaping is becoming a focus of the expert debate in foreign language didactics. In the paper, the linguistic landscape approach is discussed first in the context of the variety of current approaches to processes of language learning and teaching which are based on the concept of language and cultural awareness, i.e. the visual or pictorial turn, in the linguistics of images and lin¬guistics of text types. The potential of linguistic landscaping for foreign language learning and teaching is then presented through various examples from the area of high school education, with the Czech city of Brno as their common spatial framing. |
