Description | The study describes the process of translating and adapting the LMX-7 questionnaire into Czech and provides evidence about the reliability and validity of the Czech version. LMX-7 measures leader-member exchange which is connected to the quality of the relationship between leaders and followers. The English questionnaire was double translated into Czech, back-translated into English by a native speaker and compared to the original. Afterwards, the adjusted Czech version was piloted in 6 cognitive interviews, modified according to the reactions of respondents and piloted in other 5 cognitive interviews. All questions showed to be comprehensible and respondents answered them in accordance to the LMX theory. The final questionnaire was administrated to 811 Czech-speaking adults working for Czech organizations who assessed the relationship with their leaders. The analyses showed high internal consistency of Czech questionnaire, its unidimensional structure, and high factor loadings of all items. The questionnaire proved metric invariance across groups defined by leaders’ gender, followers’ age and gender, length of relationship between followers and leaders and the number of followers led by a leader. The convergent validity of the questionnaire was supported by the strong relationship between LMX measured by the Czech LMX-7 and both followers’ organizational commitment and their perception of leaders’ effectiveness. Czech LMX-7 showed to be a valid instrument for measuring the quality of the relationship between leaders and followers within the Czech-speaking population. |
