Description | Current research clearly shows that war and written communication in the late Middle Ages are two phenomena whose development is inextricably linked. Numerous formalized types of documents have emerged in the context of war communication, such as rejection letters, truces and peace agreements, mercenary contracts and bills, indemnity letters, drafting letters, etc. - to name only the most common. It has also been shown that the production and exchange of these specialized documents were evidently much more intense and far-reaching than would seem due to their often fragmentary preservation today. |
