Description Introduction: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can lead to esophageal and extraesophageal symptomatology. Extraesophageal reflux (EER) is a condition where refluxate penetrate above the upper esophageal sphincter into the oral cavity, pharynx, upper and lower respiratory tract. Prolonged or repeated exposure to gastric contents leads to mucosal damage and pathological changes. Experimental studies suggested that the damage caused by reflux is not only due to acidic nature of the refluxate, but is caused also by pepsin and bile acids
