Description Honey bees can use their innate immune system to react on environmental changes and pathogens. Haemocytes circulating in the haemolymph are responsible for cellular part of immunity and antimicrobial peptides, phenoloxidase and coagulation cascades form the humoral part. Honey bees evolved social immunity as superstructure on individual immunity, thus behaviour is very important for surviving whole the colony. In July/August starts the winter generation which is long-living in contrast to short-living summer honey bees. Both generations differ in physiological and immune parameters. In our project funded by Ministry of Agriculture we focussed on markers usable for determination summer and winter bees.
