Description | The presented research analyzed 91 stories of the Little Red Riding Hood (LRRH) fairy tale from children between 4 and 9 years. The analysis dealt with two main areas of narrative research: the macrostructure and the microstructure of the story. Principles of functional analysis (Propp, 1968) were used for macrostructure research and the LRRH story was divided into 32 sequences. The occurrence of individual sequences was recorded in the obtained narratives. The frequency of individual sequences in all narratives reveals the processes carried out during the constitution of the narrative representations. Analysis of the microstructure of the story consisted in observing the phenomena that the narrative representation implements (narrative means) in the narrative. The obtained narratives reflect (probably an autonomous) process of understanding information in a narrative that is able to isolate important and less important parts of the story. The salience of the individual events in the children's storytelling corresponds to the advanced story analysis. However, children do not know the formal analysis of stories - they must have a (innate?) cognitive apparatus that allows them to do so. |
