Description | Despite the peace agreement that the Colombian government signed with the former guerrilla group FARC-EP in November 2016, various illegal armed and criminal groups still operate in many parts of the country and continue to recruit and use minors. If these children are captured or escape before being 18 years old, they are handed over to the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) and attended within its specialized programme. From November 1999 to September 2018, more than 6.500 minors received this attention, 71% of them were boys. The process of restoration of rights of these youth is carried out within institutional or family-based models. |
