| Description | Joseph Hardtmuth, an architect and, later, also a building director on Liechtenstein demesnes had a significant influence on the appearance of the landscape composition, and not only regarding the Lednice-Valtice grounds. A considerable number of voluptuary and utilitarian buildings were constructed according to his designs in Bohemia, Moravia and Lower Austria. The contribution deals with buildings (today unpreserved) that were created either directly by Joseph Hardtmuth or on the basis of his projects, and sketched in the overall concept of the lay out of the park of the Lednice Castle in South Moravia at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. These buildings emerged as symbols of representation and trendy style of the then ruling Prince and his suc-cessor. The author describes the origin and fates of the buildings, which mostly made way for the new park arrangements resulting from the commencement of a new trendy style, or were pulled down because their repairs would be too expensive. The obelisks (“The Guards of the Space” and “Guide-posts”) are also mentioned here. Their author was Joseph Hardtmuth and their construction started during the reign of Prince Alois I Joseph of Liechtenstein. Thanks to their location, the obelisks also played an important role in the general concept of the park. |
