Description OBJECTIVES: The aim of this article is to assess work values, quality of work life and their connection to overall job satisfaction among social workers compared to other sectors of the economy. THEORETICAL BASE: We use theories of work values, quality of work life and the theory of job satisfaction. METHODS: Using the Czech subsample (n = 665) of ISSP 2015 database on work values, we analyse variance and correlation. OUTCOMES: We conclude that social workers value mostly altruism (helping others, usefulness for society), intrinsic values (interesting job), job security and financial security (money). Moreover, the quality of work lifein these areas (except in the area of job security) is strongly associated to overall job satisfaction. SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: This implies that the management of social work services should ensure that employees work directly with clients, minimizing administration. In addition, the impacts of their activities on the target population should be evaluated and published as proof of their social usefulness and ability to help. Finally, wages should be increased and stabilized.
