Description | The monograph of our leading specialists in the field of algesiology aims to provide the reader with clear and up-to-date information on chronic pain, including its effects on the patient (physical, mental and social) and at the same time (due to the growing number of patients suffering from chronic pain) . Among other things, the authors call for a rational choice of pharmacotherapy with caution when choosing over-the-counter products and not underestimating communication with the patient. The introductory chapters briefly mention the pathophysiology of pain, its division and psychosocial context of chronic pain. Separate chapters are devoted to methods of pain treatment - pharmacotherapy, invasive methods, psychotherapy of chronic algic syndrome and other treatment methods (eg acupuncture and TENS). In the second, "special" part of the publication, the authors deal in detail with the treatment of individual pain syndromes - headaches, back pain, complex regional pain syndrome, chest pain and abdominal pain, treatment of pain in the elderly, neuropathic pain, treatment of oncological and breakthrough pain. A special chapter is devoted to the treatment of acute pain. The text is supplemented by pictorial documentation and a number of tables. |
