Description This paper deals with the comparison of marriage divorce in the Czech and Lebanese legal regulations at the procedural level. In Lebanese Republic the marriage divorce proceeding is based on religion where the multi-confessional system of personal status is applied (in Arab. orig. al-ahwál aš-šachsíja). This system is composed of several other subsystems of personal status, each subsystem consists of its own structure of laws and its own structure of judiciary. Contrary to the Czech legislation, civil marriage cannot be concluded and therefore even a civil divorce. Attention will be paid to the method of commencement of proceeding, application of the jurisdiction of the courts and the basic procedural principles underlying the proceedings. Concurrently, the influence and the absence of religion in the marriage divorce proceeding is evaluated.
