Description | In recent years, the debate about the quality of life, the strength of social ties and the global social changes that (at least) have been experiencing attractive tourist locations around the world in the last decade has been increasing. The UNESCO brand is one of the guidelines that individual travellers and agencies use as a guide for planning their trips. In this paper, I will introduce some of the starting points of the project Home in the City of UNESCO, which focuses (among other things) on understanding the influence of tourism (in its various forms) on life in a small town, on local ties and feelings of belonging. The project is implemented as a pilot study in the town of Telč. The presentation will focus on the theoretical background and some of the first conclusions reached by the interdisciplinary team of social scientists at the end of the first year of implementation. In the paper (1) I will deal in general with the topic of protection of historical and cultural heritage, the formation of these values that need to be protected and what this protection entails. (2) Next, I will focus on what image of the “tourist” we encounter (not only) in Telč and (3) finally, based on my first research experience, I will try to reflect the (sociologically interesting) specifics of the issue in a small town. |
