Description | Orientalism: Western construction of distant regions. The short text introduces orientalism as a discourse based on interlocking of geographical imagination and power. It originates from Western imaginations of the Middle East, which is represented as immature and set against the mature West. Orientalist stereotypes continue to influence our imagination of postcolonial societies and legitimise Western interventions in non-Western regions, including military operations. |
