| Description | The best practices summarize and evaluate the evidence available at the time of their creation in order to help doctors choose the best treatment strategy for the individual patient disease. As such, they should help doctors in decision making in their daily practice. However, the final decision on the treatment of individual patients must be made by the responsible healthcare professionals together with the patient. The level of evidence and the strength of recommendations for specific treatment options have been weighed and graded according to pre-defined scales as indicated in Tables 1 and 2. However, the recommended procedures do not relieve the physician of his or her personal responsibility to make adequate decisions under the circumstances of a particular patient, in consultation with that patient. |
