| Description | In this volume, we offer a translation of selected passages from Newton's masterpiece Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy (1687). Newton's writing is very extensive and demanding, so we decided to translate only the most important parts of the work. We chose passages places that are essential both in terms of the history of philosophy and in terms of the history of science because Newton's work certainly belongs to both traditions. We have accompanied the translation of the Principles with several letters from Newton to Rev. Bentley concerning cosmological issues and the nature of gravitational force. The book also includes two prefaces dealing with the philosophical, historical, and physical aspects of Newton's work. |
