Description | This case study, which focuses on a student teacher and her cooperating teacher, reveals the differences in classroom management that are mainly associated with the distinct roles in teaching practice. An inductive qualitative analysis of video-recordings of classes taught by the student teacher and cooperating teacher was performed and interviews were conducted with both teachers. The results reveal that behaviour management is more difficult for the student teacher because it is influenced by factors connected with the role of the teacher. In instructional management, the student teacher can more easily draw from thorough lesson preparation or subject-matter knowledge. The findings of this study strengthen the need for the improved education of cooperating teachers to reflect on classroom management with student teachers |
