| Description | The present work VIRTUES – VICES, DELIGHTS – SUFFERINGS: A Poetic Illustrated Encyclopedia by Professor Jaroslav Malina forms an organic sequel to his previous publications Anti-Encyclopedia of Anti-Anthropology (A to Ž) (2013) and World’s Geniuses in Khayyam-Style Quatrains (A to Ž) (2014). Once again the author guides the reader through the labyrinth of human knowledge with his typical playfulness, genial poetics and an extraordinary knack for an intellectual condensation. However, in contrast with the Borgesian labyrinths evoked by his aspirations, Malina’s encyclopedic text does not create alternative worlds, but rather a poetic comment on our reality combining the didactic function with poetry. |
