Description | Luis Mario Moncada, Edgar Chías, Legom, Alejandro Ricano, Bárbara Colio, Richard Viqueira, Martín Zapata... The generation of Mexican playwrights that began to perform in the 90s of the 20th century is part of the universal current of recovery of the word on stage, but a renewed word that abandons the mimetic function of drama and embraces the performative nature of post-dramatic theater. Narraturgy is the name given to the tendency of Mexican playwrights of this generation to use forms of writing that emphasize the presence of the public and the dialogue between the public and the artists. And what is the public with which contemporary Mexican playwriting dialogues? The new system of funding for the arts that emerged in 1989 from the creation of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (Fonca) increased the autonomy of the Mexican theater field and made the community it addresses a central aspect of every project. The dialogue with the public that is established through the narrative current and because of the new financing systems also affects such an important issue as the commitment of the theatrical text. The theater of the Fonca generation has a marked ethical character, but its capacity to resist the neoliberal and spectacularized society does not lie in a discourse of denunciation or in supporting the argument of the leftist institutions, but precisely in the search for a non-spectacular dialogue with the audience. |
