| Description | Effective intervention in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) requires cooperation between parents, carers, educators and therapists. The practical skills that pupils learn, for example in the school environment, need to be actively practiced in the so-called natural environment, which for most pupils includes their home and other places where the child regularly interacts. Only in this way can generalizations take place - the generalization of newly acquired skills and their use in the environments for which they are intended. The generalization of skills can be greatly aided by trained parents who use the same techniques when working with a child as teachers or therapists. Due to the general lack of trainers who could educate parents and other carers in behavioral interventions, it seems possible to use the Pyramidal Parent Training system, where trained parents train other "new" parents or family members in basic procedures. We will present the possibilities and limits of this procedure in the form of a literature review of research conducted in this area between 1980–2019. |
