Description | In social sciences, there has been long-standing effort to bridge the divide between human behavior and cognition. Eye tracking has proven itself as one of the methods that can aid such effort. There are multiple methods and applications to eye tracking; this paper is to focus on one of them: tracking whole objects in a head-mounted display tied to a 3D real-time engine. The paper covers the issues of designing virtual environments suitable for this method and the process of acquiring and evaluating data. Exploratory data collection involving a stationary virtual scene in virtual reality was conducted and evaluated. Follow-up discussion elaborates on applicability, good practices, shortcomings and workarounds regarding the method. |
