| Description | The remnants of the old landscape are undoubtedly an interesting and at the same time littleknown historical natural and cultural heritage. The paper demonstrates the principles of defining the ancient landscape as a legacy from the period of pre-industrial societies. The actual procedure of their identification, inventory and mapping is documented on the example of the historical territory of Moravia. The actual procedure and results are confronted with the state of knowledge of the issue of old landscapes in the world. The resulting 1139 segments of the ancient pre-industrial landscape were identified and gradually generalized in this area in approximately 3,000 cadastral units. All were classified into three size (according to the area) and quality classes (according to the degree of preservation at present in comparison with the state in the first half of the 19th century. A key part of the article is an overview of areas of human activity in which knowledge of the location and characteristics of segments of the preindustrial landscape can be used effectively. |
