Description The goal of this review is to take the reader more in-depth into the problem of human overpopulation that was first introduced in Human overpopulation as the greatest challenge for gynecology of the 21st century published in this magazine in issue 2/2018. This review focuses on the environmental dimensions of overpopulation and the crucial environmental consequences that stem from them. It is based a summary of available literature on the topic and supported by recent data from organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Wildlife Fund, Aquastat, Faostat, and so on. The review further deals with different components of population growth and identifies those that are open for medical intervention. It underlines the importance of family planning and support of human, especially women’s rights, as well as girls’ and women’s education and empowerment. The review concludes by introducing steps gynecologists can take in their fight against human overpopulation (and towards women’s health worldwide).
