Description | This summary research report presents the results of several experiments that investigated people’s emotional responses to cyberthreats. It particularly focused on differences between perceptions of conventional and cyber threats. Thus it examined responses to simulated conventional and cyber terrorism including in connection with the Czech mobile app eRouška, or ‘eMask’. Various attributes of the participants in the experiment, including their sophistication, were taken into consideration. The study found that the salience of the issue influenced the perception of the threat. The perceived threat of conventional terrorism was rated only slightly greater than that of cyberterrorism. Respondents’ opinions differed depending on their security sophistication. The form of communication about this topic was found to have a polarising effect. The report contains recommendations for the creation of security documents that respect these findings. |
