Description | The paper presents a concept of an experimental design and its statistical analysis. The objective of the experiment is to examine cognitive processing of various cartographic visualizations in regard to an individual’s cognitive style. In cartography, alternative methods may be used to represent data. In our study, two forms of representation of bivariate maps were utilized: intrinsic and extrinsic. In the experiment, map reading tasks were followed by a Compound Figure Test, which distinguishes analytic and holistic individuals on a bipolar scale. The study is based on a hypothesis that analytic individuals would be relatively more efficient when the intrinsic method is applied, while - vice versa - holistic individuals would do better when the extrinsic method is applied. Individual differences are examined with the considered future cross-cultural comparison in mind. |
