Description | Recently, a new trend of understanding mental health difficulties through the network perspective has been observed. Combined with sampling patients' experiences in everyday life, this approach allows for the creation of personalized models describing the dynamic relationships among symptoms over time. The aim of this study was to test the applicability of these models for understanding the dynamics of medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS). Two patients suffering from MUPS filled in a questionnaire on the intensity of symptoms and selected psychological and situational variables five times a day for three weeks using a mobile application. Two network structures, temporal and contemporaneous, were modeled using the vector autoregression method. The resulting models are discussed mainly in terms of their practical usefulness for the targeting of psychotherapeutic interventions. |
