Description | What happens if we combine political power, money and vague rules? The answer is opportunity. This publication presents the most extensive analysis of the distribution of public funds in Slovakia and its impact on elections. It covers the distribution of subsidies to municipalities from three national programs between 2003 and 2018, i.e. for the period of five different governments. The book shows that the division of resources in Slovakia serves political parties as a tool for rewarding their own members and punishing their rivals. In addition, specific allocation strategies distort local government elections and provide some mayors unjustified benefits on their path to re-election. The book thus proves that there are only few stronger allies than politics and money. |
