| Description | In her article, the author analyzes the theme of Schulzian inspirations in the work of Bohumil Hrabal, which have never been taken into account in the context of Czech Bohemistics when researching Hrabal's work. At the beginning she shows how fundamentally Hrabal-reader had on putting Schulz's work in the Czech context and settling in it. Schulzian inspirations are analyzed on the basis of Hrabal's Trilogy Cutting It Short, Beautiful Sadness and Harlequin's Millions, on the level of several key motifs: Anna Csillag's topos and women's hair as a symbol of old Austria-Hungary, Book-Authentic motif in relation to the father-sofer of the sacred scrolls, comparision of Schulz's schlemiels with Hrabal's palaverers and the semantic shift of the meaning of the Book and the schlemiels/palaverers on the profanum-sacrum axis. Furthermore, she compares father's fascination with the achievements of modern technology and son's brilliant epoch of childhood, as well as the motive of experiments with time in a retirement home-sanatorium under the sign of the hourglass. The author does not aim to exhaust the topic or provide clear answers, rather it gives the listeners the most obvious motives for reflection, opening up a new Schulz context. |
