Description | The paper focused on the phenomenon of "grey eminences" at the late medieval imperial court, i.e. powerful and influential courtiers whose privileged informal position far exceeded their formal offices and titles. After introducing the definition of grey eminences and pointing out the possibilities and limits of the sources, the career and agenda of Brunoro della Scala, an Italian exile and subsequently a counsellor and diplomat at the court of Sigismund of Luxembourg, was presented as an example of pars pro toto. |
