Description | The paper expresses the reasons for the failure of high school graduates from their perspective. In general, failure in the school-leaving examination can be seen as a failure of the individual. However, one group of causes can hardly explain repeated failure in the school-leaving examination. We assume that several factors contribute to repeated failure: the setting of the education system, primary and secondary schools themselves and their school culture, the personality of the unsuccessful graduate, his family and the broader social environment in which he lives, the network of support from counselling and social services as well as the socio-economic context. The individual groups of causes are interconnected explicitly over time, creating a unique story. The paper aims to critically examine the power of theories explaining school failure and early school leaving to explain failure at the Matura exam. |
