Description | The central issue addressed here is the activity of hunters and gathers related to post-glacial Epigravettian occupation in the areas located north of Sudetes. Using data from open-air site Sowin 7, SW Poland, we would like to demonstrate that the main activities conducted at the site can be related to the retooling of hunting equipment as well as with a whole set of tasks aiming at food acquisition. Comparing the remains from Sowin with other Epigravettian sites in Poland we can conclude that the Epigravettian troops were well-equipped and the visits were indeed extensive. Although it is difficult to explain whether the remains are related to the logistic or residential model of the settlement, current research indicates the presence of systematic exploitation of the environment. |
