Description | After the Second World War, the clothing industry in Czechoslovakia was marked by a shortage of raw materials. The consequence of the political coup in 1919 was the closure of borders in order to isolate themselves economically and culturally from the Western world. Related to this was the rejection of international fashion as a bourgeois relic and a programmatic focus on one's own, especially folk culture, as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Professional designers and amateur manufacturers turned their attention to home materials, traditional cuts, techniques, and decorations, which they applied to the everyday clothes of the new - socialist man. |
