Description | Leadership is a concept that is increasingly being used in librarianship. The team of the Department of Information Studies and Librarianship at Masaryk University in Brno came across the necessity to deal more deeply with the issue of leading people in libraries during the implementation of the project Centre for Social Innovation in Public Library and Information Services. In the summer of 2020, this team therefore organised a survey among Czech librarians that focused on the roles of people who lead an entire organisation, team or project in a library. The survey showed that the most common roles of leaders in Czech libraries are coordinators, decision makers and visionaries, while the roles of qualitators, crisis managers and mediators, which are perhaps more typical of the private sector, are underrepresented. The roles of leaders differ more markedly in community libraries - where the role of the leader is more focused on coordination, networking or information. |
