Description | Mongolian archives of the Qing period provide plentiful criminal investigation files including individual testimonies. These sources elucidate otherwise undocumented individual migrations, regional and supraregional mobilities and their motivations. This paper analyses multiple moves of a fugitive group of hunters among Altai Uriankhais in 1770s and 1780s. It suggests that these individual moves significantly contributed to the formation of a unified identity of the Mongolian cultural area. |
