Description In the current context, professionalization can be viewed in various ways, eg Noordegraaf mentions purified professionalism in response to classical professionalism, further situated professionalism and hybrid professionalism. In terms of classical status professions and their characteristics (Greenwood), social work is understood as semi-professions (Banks), while the form of its professionalization corresponds more to situated professionalism (Dohnalová, Nečasová, Rídlová), where the classical attributes of the profession are fulfilled to varying degrees. The aim of the paper is to answer the question, how are the selected characteristics of the profession fulfilled in social work in the opinion of social workers and research participants? In our paper, we will focus on issues of the status of social workers in society and their position in multidisciplinary teams, the code of ethics and the importance that social workers attach to it in their qualification training and in practice. In the text we will first focus on the theoretical background of professionalism in connection with the professionalization of social work and then we will focus on how the current state of professionalization was perceived by participants in the research Ethical Dilemmas, Values and Principles of Social Work, which took place in 2018 -2019. At the end of the article we will present practical recommendations.
