Description | The following article deals with legal aspects and sealing practice in the field of modern sphragistics. It examines tax letters from the region of Olomouc between 1583 and 1602, which offer a large number of seals from the nobility (major and minor) and the bourgeoisie. Each legal regulation has its specific seal that is related to the means of verification in the tax letters. The tax letters themselves illustrate the everyday use of the seal and display deviations from generally observed practice. This is evident especially in the matter of requesting somebody else’s seal, which could be done transparently or secretly, and it is necessary to find the relation between the publisher and the owner of the seal. |
