Description | The paper deals with Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg’s grant of arms for the Bohemian town of Třebenice in 1423. The original imperial charter is no longer in existence and the surviving copies do not include the miniature of the coat of arms. Therefore, it is not clear how the coat of arms originally appeared. The charter describes a coat of arms with St. George holding a sword in his hand. Moreover, this coat of arms was likened to that of the intercessor, Jan Kaplíř of Sulevice. It is probable that this assimilation was expressed in the depiction of the coat of arms. Nevertheless, over the centuries the depiction has changed. |
