Keywords Length of curve; definite integral; spiral of Archimedes; logarithmic spiral; hyperbolic spiral; Fermat spiral
Description The article was created as the result of the research oriented at the innovation of the content and forms of teaching Mathematics at universities. The article contains a few topics for motivation in the Mathematics teaching which are closely related to the possibilities of students´ research approach. Firstly, there are described several examples of mathematical spirals including historical remarks, further there are given these spirals´ equations in polar coordinates and in parametric formulations as well. In the conclusion there are derived the formulas for their lengths with the help of the integral calculus.
