Description | Anion binding in water can be beneficial for many reasons, e.g., simple anion analysis, removal of toxic anions, or anion transport. However, development of synthetic anion receptors is a complex problem due to very competitive character of aqueous media. Bambus[6]urils have been recognized as potent anion receptors in various media. Water-solubility was successfully achieved by introducing carboxylate groups onto the macrocycle. Affinity of bambus[6]urils toward anions was enhanced introducing electron withdrawing groups to their structure. The aim of this project is to synthesize a water-soluble bambus[6]urils with high affinity toward anions. We suggest several strategies for preparation of water soluble fluorinated bambus[6]uril including than one in which the macrocycle is prepared from glycoluril monomers bearing both polar and fluorinated groups. Synthesis of these glycoluril derivatives and resulting bambus[6]urils will be presented. |
