| Description | What is the role of materials and materiality in architecture over the centuries? And what is their place in the theoretical thinking of art historians, historians and architects? The authors try to find answers to these and other related questions in the presented monograph Material and Materiality in Architecture within the Brno School of Art History, which is based on an online conference of the same name and a follow-up workshop held on June 3 and 4, 2021. The publication also presents various approaches in researching his issue and their practical application by several contemporary Czech architects. At the same time, it deepens the knowledge of this topic through theo¬retical reflection on key concepts such as tectonicity and stereotomy, material honesty and material transformation in the art historical tradition of the Brno School of Art History from Václav Richter or Zdeněk Kudělka to the present, personified in theoretical texts by Professor Jiří Kroupa. |
