Description | The collection of ceramic finds from a sunken feature is dated to the interval from the 2nd half of the 13th century to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The collection is mostly composed of graphite pottery or sandy pottery with addition of graphite. A minor part consists of sandy pottery without graphite, and of mica pottery. The archaeometrical analysis, including the analysis of chemical composition (ED-XRF), phase composition (XRD) and micropetrographic analysis of thin sections, has extended the macroscopic description of ceramic classes. The pottery is of local origin. Vessels were fired in a reducing or mixed atmosphere at temperatures lower than 900 °C. Several samples bear traces of higher temperature, which is associated with a damage of the feature by fire. In several ceramic classes, a glossy surface finish was identified – a clay slip with graphite and mica. |
