| Description | Current urban development is based on the principles of sustainability. In this context, the need to link aspects of the smart city and sustainable city concepts is widely discussed. The aim of the paper is to present current approaches to sustainable urban development and map out projects that explicitly contribute to meeting its objectives, funded by the 8th Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020. To achieve this, the paper uses a literature review and an analysis of secondary data obtained from the CORDIS database. A total of 406 relevant projects were classified into seven categories according to the predominant focus (sustainability challenge). Most projects were implemented in the field of smart, green, and integrated transport. Based on the findings, the paper emphasizes the need for implementing similar initiatives. |
